I lament the declining interest of the Muslim youth in particular, towards understanding of the Holy Qur’an. In fact, many of us do not even read the Holy scripture regularly, let alone its translation. It is well known that if an individual wants to talk to Allah, he should pray. But if he wants Allah to speak to him, the seeker should read Qur’an. What a beautiful thought this is in itself. This is where we have forgotten the value of Allah’s revelation. It is imperative for us to instill in ourselves, the text brought to Prophet Muhammad(SAW) by Gabriel. Qur’an, no doubt, is the most pristine and reliable source of knowledge for humanity. It is the only book today on earth, in its original form because Allah has protected and preserved it from alterations by keeping it safe in the hearts of believers. This is the reason why several attempts of the critics of Islam, to mutilate the Holy book have been to no avail.
Some people are of the opinion that it is only the duty of Islamic scholars and leaders to decipher the meaning of Allah’s words. On the contrary, it is a must for each and every Muslim to ponder, with sincerity and belief over the meaning of Qur’an. Allah, the Almighty says in the Holy Qur’an, “This is a Book full of Blessings that we have revealed unto you so people ponder upon its verses and men of intellect may reflect.”(38:29). The predicament which we are confronted with, is the blithe approach to the seriousness of this issue. We have readily assumed Qur’an as a legacy, ergo, none pays heed to it. According to me, it should have been the other way round. It is a mercy bestowed by Allah(SWT) on His creations, so that they may save themselves from the hell fire. The following verse warns us, about the same. “They will say: “Had we but listened or used our intelligence, we would not (now) be among the Companions of the Blazing Fire!” (67:10). The Qur’an is full of wisdom and knowledge. It has the solution to the problems faced by the world today. Not a single verse of it can be thought of, being against humanity. “Indeed, this Qur’an leads on to an appropriate and secure path. It gives the good news to those who perform righteous deeds, that theirs is a great reward! And We have prepared a painful punishment for those who do not believe in the afterlife.”(17:9-10). We need to realize that every Muslim is duty-bound to spread the message of Allah to the mankind, before it is too late. This is the area, where we lack far behind from the point at which we should have been. “These people have refused to accept the advice, (the Qur’an), when it came to them, (though) it is definitely a mighty book! Falsehood can neither confront it head on, nor approach it (stealthily) from behind. (It is) a revelation from the Wise, the One Worthy of praise.”(41:41-42). I pray to Allah, that He guides us to the straight path and help those who have swerved away from the path of salvation and righteousness.
In this modern era, it is even easier to grasp knowledge from different sources over the internet. One of my school teachers, Mr. Farhatullah Khan, has a very famous cause at Facebook by the name “Understanding of the Holy Qur’an is a must”, which has around six thousand members and is still on the rise. He posts the translation on this page, regularly. The same is sent to the emails of the members of this group. I would ask all of you to join it, so that more and more people can be derive benefit from it. The link to this cause is mentioned hereby.
